Thanks for the info, I was needing some 16 work this time, but now I know not to expect rank from them for my S8.

if the transfer station has a rank gate for super8, they have no mention of it on their web page: www.thetransferstation.com they only mention rank for 16mm & 35mm.

Well, the numbers I now have don't appear to be quite that good. However...

I received an email from Myron at CinePost. Nice guy! Here's what he had to say:

"Our book rate is $225/hr with a 1/2hr minimum. We can transfer any film
stock...our wetgate process is most effective on reversal stock...negative
looks good without it. We have most broadcast formats to record to and will
discount on significant jobs. Call us toll-free at 877-493-6494 for more information."

I double-checked Super 8 Sound's website for their pricing info. The S8S rank transfer rate is $275.00/hour, also with a 1/2hr minimum.

So, while not exactly half as much, CinePost does have the less expensive rank transfer, and from the sound of it, at least as good on the quality of the transfer and better with the customer service. In both an email and a follow-up phone call, the CinePost guys were polite and helpful, darn near cheerful, actually. None of that off-putting, slightly elitist attitude the Burbank S8S people seem to have.

I think I'm going to give 'em a shot, the next go 'round.

    Thanks, everyone!

Then it looks like S8S dropped their rates. Which is great. I still won't use them. They used to be far more than that. Good Luck

    Rollemfilm,

The Transfer Station DOES HAVE A SUPER-8 GATE. They have not updated their webpage, but it does exist. As I said, a friend of mine has has S8 transfered using it with great results. Call them and talk to Doug.

I've usded CinePost for nearly a year now for s-8-to-dv and they are great! When needed, I have spoken directly to their colorist on specific scene needs and he is very acccomodating. They have both a dry gate and a wet gate (which I doubt S8S or anyone else has), and did an unbelieveable job on bringing clarity back to some _severely_ scratched Reg 8mm footage I sent them. Don't go anywhere else!
